MOT repairs after a failed MOT
Should your car fail the MOT test we can repair it on site, usually at the same time subject to parts availability, thus avoiding the need for you to return for a re-test. See below for the type of MOT you require. We offer a re-test of your vehicle free of charge within 10 working days should you wish to repair it elsewhere. Check your vehicle's MOT history and status online
To check your vehicle's MOT history and status online you will need the vehicle's registration number. You will also need the MOT test number from the latest MOT pass (VT20) or refusal (VT30) certificate. If you don't have the latest MOT certificate you can use the vehicle reference number which is located on the registration certificate (V5C). Visit: https://www.gov.uk/check-mot-status MOT Q&A

MOT Certificates, Advisory Notes and Failure Sheets
The way that the MOT test works in England, Scotland and Wales changes on 20 May 2018.
Issues found during the MOT are either:
All issues are listed either on the pass certificate (if the vehicle has passed the test but with some advisory items to note) or on the failure sheet (if the vehicle has failed the test and there are also some advisory items).
If an item has been recorded as an advisory item it does not have to be rectified in order to pass the mot. However, it is good practice to consult your garage’s advice regarding a future repair. Sometimes, it is sufficient to just get it checked in a few months but in other cases replacing a small part before it leads to a bigger, more expensive repair may be prudent.
There are also stricter rules on diesel emissions, changes to what we test and some improvements to the clarity of the MOT certificate, and changes for classic cars. You can read more about the changes here.

Issues found during the MOT are either:
- dangerous - should not be driver until repaired.
- major - must be fixed immediately.
- minor - must be repaired as soon as possible.
- advisories - monitor and fix if necessary
- pass - meets minimum legal standard.
